Flora’s Wine Bar opened in Port Washington and we headed right over

|

Flora’s Wine Bar opened in Port Washington on Thursday.

And we went running for opening night.

The space, formerly the Olive Room and prior to that Wild Honey, has undergone a magnificently sexy renovation complete with boudoir lighting, up-lit shelving, an inviting bar with pressed tin ceilings.

The walls are lined with antique mirrors and Italian-inspired artwork.

It’s an unexpectedly glamorous addition to Port’s Main Street, a cozy jewel box of a space that begs lingering at.

Ervis and Gabriella Xhelaj, the couple that makes everything at Flora’s sing, will personally welcome you with open arms — along with a perfectly poured cocktail. The Negroni Bianca, the Vodka Gimlet with elderflower or the Mezcal Paloma, they say, have proven to be instant favorites.

Then there’s the food.

The menu is evolving, but you can expect nearly the standouts from Floras Café in Syosset, as well as new items in the coming weeks, including whole roasted fish, and, of course, a rotation of seasonally fresh pasta dishes that Ervis is known for on the Island.

The almost-all Italian wine list deserves your perusal; take a chance and check out the biodynamic selections, especially the Sicilian orange wine.

Flora’s Wine Bar & Restaurant is located at 173 Main St. in Port Washington.
