NJ Gov. Murphy: Football fans to be allowed at Giants, Jets games next season

|

New York sports fans will once again be welcomed at MetLife Stadium.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy on Monday announced that the home of the New York Giants and New York Jets — along with other sports arenas in the state — can begin adding fans starting March 1.

The governor said New Jersey venues that hold 5,000 or more are now permitted to have a crowd at 10 percent seating capacity for indoor events, while outdoor events can hold up to 15 percent.

That means about 1,600 fans will be allowed to attend the Prudential Center on March 2 for the New Jersey Devils home game against the New York Islanders.

Fans at the event will need to remain six feet apart from other attendees; individuals who purchase or reserve tickets together may sit together. Attendees will also be required to wear masks in the facility, except when eating or drinking.

“This is a day toward which our entire staff has been planning, working, and looking forward to for the past 11 months,” said Devils’ president Jake Reynolds in a statement. “The fan’s journey has been developed to provide consumer confidence from the street to the seat, and we can’t wait to feel their energy welcome them back to the Prudential Center to cheer and celebrate Devils’ victories in person.”

The news of opening New Jersey arenas and stadiums to fans comes nearly two weeks after Gov. Andrew Cuomo made similar measures with New York sporting venues.
