Freeze watch issued for eastern Long Island

|

For those who had complained about prolonged summer heat this September and October, you’re about to get your wish.

In the meantime, get those summer palm plants into the house.

The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a freeze watch for the Greater Patchogue area and beyond, with temperatures expected to dip into the low 30s over the weekend.

The purpose of the watch is mainly for gardeners and farmers, so that they can take precautions since the below-freezing temperatures could instantly kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.

According to the NWS’s weekend forecast, Saturday will see a high of 56 and a low of 32 degrees. Sunday’s temperatures will reach 50 degrees with a low of 33. Monday’s low will be 40 with a high of 49 degrees.
