Garden City welcomes Mesita, owners set to open eateries in Patchogue and Amityville in 2022

|

Like guacamole and sour cream on a warm tortilla, Mesita is spreading across Long Island.

The Mexican restaurant’s second location — at 825 Franklin Ave. in Garden City — opened in November, six years after the first Mesita opened in Rockville Centre. Ownership confirmed that three additional Long Island locations are in the works — in Amityville and Patchogue later this year and in Smithtown in 2023.

The group also has its heart set on opening a restaurant in Fort Lauderdale in spring 2023.

When customers walk into the Garden City spot, many pose for photos in a waiting area that is adorned with skull and luchador art work. They sit in a dining room with color-changing overhead and wall lighting, or hang out at the bar with its red “Chopper” bicycle hanging amongst the TV screens and bottles.

The menu is replete with such authentic Mexican dishes as tamales, street corn and sweet plantains. There’s also fire-grilled steak, shrimp and chicken fajitas, burritos and tacos. On taco Tuesdays, Mesita offers up all-day specials on tacos and quesadillas.

For entrees, Mesita serves chicken, shrimp or pulled pork enchiladas; shrimp scampi; and seared salmon among other popular dishes.

The restaurant’s drink menu boasts more than 20 classic and specialty margaritas. For large groups, the joint shakes up its mega margarita, which blends 36 ounces of Espolòn Blanco tequila, triple sec, fresh lime juice, agave nectar and orange juice.

For Saturday and Sunday brunch, guests can order up buttermilk or tres leches pancakes and honey chipotle fried chicken with a churro waffle, among other breakfast and lunch favorites.
