GoFundMe launched for family of West Babylon teen killed at house party

|

A GoFundMe campaign was launched Tuesday to support the family of the 15-year-old boy stabbed and killed Monday night during a West Babylon house party.

Organized on behalf of Liam Delemo’s parents Hope and Michael, the campaign description said the boy’s “bright spirit touched everyone who knew him.”

“To know Liam was to love him — his laughter, his kindness, and his pure heart brought light to all around him,” the statement reads.

Liam was stabbed during a fight at a house party at 813 Carlton Road, near Avenue C, about 10:25 p.m. Monday, police said.

Officers responding to the scene found the 11th grade student with a stab wound. He was rushed to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the fight broke out among several teens among the crowd of 100 people who had gathered for the late-night party. With schools closed Tuesday for Election Day, many teens were out late.

The GoFundMe statement, according to the page, was written on behalf of Liam’s best friend, Michael McGraw.

Liam “was a brother to Michael,” says the statement. “They grew up side by side, sharing countless memories, laughter, and moments that will be cherished forever.

“Their bond was unbreakable, and the loss of Liam has left an emptiness that words can’t describe,” it continued.

The campaign states that donations will help Liam’s parents, with funeral expenses, time away from work and other unexpected costs related to their loss. The page raised more than $14,000 in its first seven hours Tuesday.

Detectives are investigating and have asked anyone with information about the incident to contact the Homicide Squad at 631.852.6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1.800.220.TIPS.
