Faculty and administrators at Mather Hospital packed into a conference room Wednesday in Port Jefferson to learn if they were awarded a Magnet designation.
They got the call.

The recognition, which is given by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, honors hospitals with nurses that deliver excellent patient care.

There are less than 500 hospitals that receive the Magnet status, with 26 named New York State for 2018.
“Our patient care program has been named one of the best in the world,” said Maureen Altieri, Mather’s Magnet program director.
