Greater Long Island sees banner month, surpassing 550,000 views for first time

|

It’s been a great start to 2023 for Greater Long Island Media Group.

The company, which publishes greaterlongisland.com, saw its news website break 550,000 views in one month for the first time in company history.

The site was viewed 555,089 times by 396,639 visitors in January (scroll down to see GLI’s top three stories of the month).

The old record was 536,886 pageviews with 307,000 visitors in Feb. 2021.

Greater Long Island is on pace to do over 6.6 million pageviews this year — which would be an all-time best for the news company. The site topped 4.6 million views in 2022.

“This is just the start to what I feel is going to be an awesome year for the company,” said Nicholas Esposito, the news organization’s editorial director. “We’re growing each year, have done really great journalistic work in our Long Island neighborhoods and have so much more to cover.”

The company began in 2015 when veteran newspaperman Michael White launched the hyperlocal news site greaterpatchogue.com, which covered downtown Patchogue and its surrounding hamlets. From there, other downtowns requested White’s style of news coverage. The site later evolved into greaterlongisland.com, covering news island-wide after fully expanding into Nassau County last year.

Greater Long Island’s team of reporters and photographers — all from Long Island — have worked in the biggest newsrooms in the world, including the New York Post, Daily News and ESPN.
