The people behind GreaterBayShore are getting ready to launch greaterlongisland.com’s first community news site on the North Shore: GreaterPortJeff.

GreaterPortJeff will cover Port Jefferson with a focus on the downtown area, as well as the surrounding North Shore communities from Stony Brook to Miller Place.

The site is expected to be unveiled this September.

“I can’t wait to take our unique and modern approach to covering community news and events to Port Jeff and the North Shore,” said Michael White, the founder and publisher of parent site greaterlongisland.com. “Port Jefferson has historically been one of Long Island’s most revered and vibrant villages, and one that is rich in history and stories.”

White has over 15 years of professional journalism experience. He is a graduate of St. Anthony’s High School in Huntington, the University of Delaware and Columbia University.

The flagship GreaterPatchogue website, which launched on July 1, 2015, is on target to surpass 1.2 million page views in 2017. And a sizable amount of that traffic is already coming from the North Shore of Suffolk County.

Meanwhile GreaterBayShore, which launched June 1, 2016, also just registered a banner month of August with over 80,000 page views from some 42,000 unique visitors. The traffic to GreaterBayShore is beginning to rival that of the GreaterPatchogue site.

GreaterBabylon just launched in May and drew nearly 22,000 views in August.

“That all tells me this is a service people want and like, no matter where they live,” said White, who often describes greaterlongisland.com’s approach to news as “constructive.” The editorial focus on the sites is always on news features and events coverage, as opposed to crime and politics.

“There are so many stories that involve creativity and ingenuity and community building that often go overlooked,” White said. “Those are the stories we want to tell.”
