It’s been a long five years for Greek cuisine lovers in Patchogue Village.
About a half-decade ago, the Old Olive Tree closed up shop leaving a void in the downtown.
That’s about to change.
A modern Greek bistro is in the works at 58D South Ocean Ave. —- a space within the former Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame.
Colosso Di Rodi Greek Bistro, which translates to Colossus of Rhodes, was approved on Tuesday night by the Patchogue Village Planning Board.
The owners, Andrew Hendricks and Konstantinos Chilias, are looking to bring a European-style, sit-down spot to the village sometime this winter.
Chilias has worked in the food industry for 15 years and has a current restaurant in Tampa, Fla.
Colosso Di Rodi will be Hendricks and Chilias’ first business venture together.
“We look forward to bringing the Greek flavor to the neighborhood,” Hendricks said during the meeting, which was broadcasted on Zoom.
The name of the bistro, Colosso Di Rodi, is a reference to one of the Seven Wonders of the World —- a statue of the Greek sun-god, Helios.
The restaurant will have a maximum of 49 seats a variety of traditional Greek food, as well as beer and wine selections, the owners said.
Brunch, lunch, and dinner will be served and there will be no liquor options.
Colosso Di Rodi plans to be open seven days a week, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. or midnight on weekends.
The Patchogue Village Architectural Review Board advised the approval of the restaurant. Kevin Weeks, acting chair of the Planning Board meeting, welcomed the Greek eatery to the neighborhood.
“We looked around Patchogue, and we see the upscale community,” Hendricks said. “We want to keep up that classiness.”
