It looks like Hofstra basketball star Preston Edmead may be one-and-done in Hempstead.
The Deer Park native and CAA Rookie of the Year has entered the transfer portal after a standout freshman season with the Pride.
The 6-foot-1 guard averaged 16.1 points and 4.4 assists per game last season and played a key role in leading Hofstra to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 25 years.
Edmead also showed out on the national stage, scoring a team-high 24 points in Hofstra’s first-round NCAA Tournament matchup against Alabama.
He delivered one of the biggest shots in program history in the conference semifinals, banking in a game-winning three-pointer with 0.3 seconds left in overtime to lift the Pride past Towson, 68-65.
“It was like a dream come true, you pray for moments like these,” Edmead said after the game.
There’s no word yet on which schools Edmead is considering, but sources tell Greater Long Island he could be headed for “big-time hoops.”
A return to Hofstra for his sophomore season also remains on the table.
