Islip Town adds new drive-thru COVID-19 testing site

|

As COVID-19 cases surge across the states, local municipalities have taken steps to slow down the virus on Long Island.

This includes the Town of Islip teaming with Good Samaritan Hospital to bring a new pop-up COVID-19 drive-thru testing site to Brentwood.

The free testing site, which is being funded federally through the Islip Community Development Agency, is located at the Brentwood Recreation Center.

The hamlet was chosen since it’s been a hotbed for the virus on Long Island.

Tests will be available by appointment only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Here’s the number to make an appointment: 631-376-4444.

Those who receive positive tests will be contacted via a phone call up to four days later; negative tests will come in the mail in approximately a week, according to hospital officials.

Here’s a statement from Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter on securing the testing site:

“Funding for this kind of effort is particularly challenging in these fiscally difficult times. Unfortunately, the Town of Islip did not meet the threshold level for direct Cares Act funding, the entire $257M went to Suffolk County. Fortunately, the Town of Islip Community Development Agency did receive some Federal funding and this initiative clearly falls under their mission of serving our communities.”
