Update: Citing trouble over securing State Liquor Authority permits in time, the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday issued a statement saying its Oct. 17 pumpkin beer festival is cancelled.
Chamber leaders will be distributing flyers during that day’s regularly scheduled Fall Festival listing all the pumpkin beer and ciders being served in the local bars and restaurants along the festival route.

First proposed in September, the Oct. 17 beer and cider garden is official. It will feature live music, Long Island-made brews and hard cider from New York State being offered up by eight Patchogue restaurants.
The beer garden will be set up next to the Bargain Bilge marine supply store West Main Street, where Blue Point Brewery, the garden’s major sponsor, had set up its stage and beer garden during the Alive After Five festivals.
It comes as part of what is expected to be the biggest fall festival yet in the village, according to the executive director of the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, David Kennedy.
The chamber, whose business promotion committee organizes fall fest, is partnering for the first time with the New Village at Patchogue to offer more craft food vendors and more children’s activities, he said.
That means the festivities will spill from Main Street and into the village square within the New Village complex.
New Village will then be hosting an outdoor public showing of Ghostbusters around 7 p.m.
As for the pumpkin beer component, Kennedy said this had always been something in the back of his mind.
“Personally, I love craft beer and I’ve always loved pumpkin beer. And, certainly in the last five years, pumpkin beer has really grown to be, maybe next to an IPA, the most popular style or flavor of craft beer.
“So recognizing that, and knowing Patchogue is called the capital of craft brewing capital on Long Island, mostly thanks to Blue Point and the Brickhouse, I just thought it was natural that this should be all included.”
The rain date for the fall festival is Oct. 24.
