KiDS NEED MoRE delivers toys to over 400 L.I. families coping with cancer and illness

|

On Sunday, the nonprofit KiDS NEED MoRE rounded up a team of toy-delivering elves, Santa Claus, and Mrs. Claus to spread some holiday cheer to families that need it most this December.

It was the group’s sixth annual HoLiDAY CHEER BUS ELF RiDE, during which volunteers deliver presents to the homes of over 400 local families coping with cancer and serious illness.

But KiDS NEED MoRE, based in Amityville, also works year-round to enhance the lives of these children, families, and young adults.

“We started this event knowing that all parents feel the pressure to make the season magical for their children, but when families are stressed with medical visits, painful treatments, and financial burdens, taking part in holiday festivities can be overwhelming,” said the group’s president, Melissa Firmes.

“We wanted to make the experience not only wonderful for the children, but also as a gift to the entire family, and a way for everyone to enjoy the holiday together,” she said.
