After nearly four decades behind the bar, Ernie Liebow, the beloved bartender and beverage director at George Martin The Original in Rockville Centre, is hanging up his shaker.
Liebow, a fixture in Long Island’s dining scene since George Martin’s opened in September 1989, will pour his last drink in early June.
Known for his old-school style, quick wit and ability to connect with everyone across the bar, Liebow has been a true professional and hospitality ambassador.
As George Korten of the George Martin Group put it, “He will be remembered as one of the ‘great ones,’ and if there was a Hall of Fame, Ernie would certainly be on top of the list.”
In 2024, Liebow was a finalist in Greater Long Island’s Bartender Battle, securing 76 percent of the vote in the Nassau bracket — a testament to his enduring popularity and skill.
Greater Long Island later last year handed him a plaque honoring him as Nassau’s Best Bartender.
To celebrate his retirement, the George Martin Group is hosting a party in his honor on Sunday, June 8, from noon to 3 p.m. at George Martin The Original. In the meantime, longtime fans are encouraged to stop by during the week, Tuesday through Thursday, to bid farewell.
