Cops on Monday arrested a 17-year-old Syosset boy in the stabbing death of a teen during a house party brawl in West Babylon last week, Suffolk County Police said.
Homicide Squad detectives charged the teen — whose name was not released because of his age — with second-degree murder in the Nov. 3 killing of 15-year-old Liam Delemo. The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.
The announcement of the arrest came the same morning that Liam’s family and friends gathered in Lindenhurst for his funeral at Lindenhurst Funeral Home. The West Babylon teen was laid to rest just as police released the arrest information regarding the youth’s alleged killer.
Fight outside the home on Carlton Road
The stabbing occurred outside 813 Carlton Road, at the corner of Carlton Road and Avenue C, where between 90 and 100 teenagers had gathered for a party late Monday night, ahead of Election Day. Police said a fight broke out about 10:25 p.m.
Witnesses said the confrontation began when a group of unfamiliar teens from outside the area arrived and were not allowed inside. The dispute escalated, ending with Delemo being stabbed. He was rushed to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead.
Homeowner charged under social host law
The homeowner, Bonnie Miranda, 70, was previously charged with violating Suffolk County’s social host law and with endangering the welfare of a child in connection with Liam, police said. Miranda had allowed her grandchild to host the gathering, police said.
