The folks at Local Burger Co. in Bay Shore are throwing their support behind the Town of Islip Animal Shelter and its efforts to raise money through The Betty White Challenge.
The town shelter has been paying special tribute to the TV icon and her love of animals by participating in the nationwide fundraising efforts.
White would have turned 100 on Jan. 17.
The idea is to ask her local fans and all animal lovers alike to donate $5 to the shelter or any animal rescue group of the donor’s choosing. News of the town shelter’s efforts was reported last week.
The Local Burger team took notice.
So on Monday, Jan. 17, Local Burger will be donating 10 percent of the day’s proceeds to the shelter.
“Giving back to the local community is part of our company’s mission,” said Mike McElwee, a co-owner at Local Burger, which also has locations in Patchogue and Southampton. “And seeing the overwhelming response for The Betty White Challenge we figured there was no way better to participate and give back to our local animal shelter.”
