Local vets, Patchogue church to attempt to break Guiness toilet paper record

|

“This is far more than a gimmick.”

So reads an announcement that the VFW Post 2913 and American Legion Post 269, both in Patchogue, is teaming up with the Congregational Church of Patchogue for Operation TP Pyramid.

They’re attempting to build the world’s largest pyramid of toilet paper.

“Toilet paper is a much needed item among homeless persons and those in transition shelters and houses on Long Island,” the announcement reads. “Yet shelters and transition homes are not allowed to request these items through grants, since toilet paper is considered a ‘luxury’ item.

“These persons (and others at food pantries) have to depend on the generosity of others, for what should be considered a basic need items.”

The record attempt will be made during the July 19 installment of Alive After Five, at the Capital One Plaza on East Main Street in the village, which is across from the church.

The goal is to stack 25,000 rolls of Scotts and the organizers need donations (details below).

The request is for only Scotts-brand toilet paper because it is septic-safe and the pyramid requires rolls uniform in diameter, height and weight. Money to purchase toilet paper is also welcome.

INSTRUCTIONS

Donated rolls of Scotts toilet paper can be purchased at Walmart, Target, Sam’s Club, COSTCO, King Kullen and elsewhere. Once again, all donated toilet paper must be Scotts! Some rolls will be for sale that day to place on the pyramid. All rolls of toilet paper and any proceeds from the project go to support the LI Against Domestic Violence shelter for women and children, Veteran Shelters, and food banks across Long Island. We are also open to suggestions as to other possible beneficiaries.
