The owners of Long Island Beach Bowl Acai Cafe in Islip are in growth mode.
They opened an acai bowl eatery in Huntington this spring and another is in the works for Babylon Village.
Owners Sal Cataldo and Christine Kim also run a seasonal location at the Islip Town Beach in Islip.
The Babylon location is planned for 14 B Railroad Avenue in Babylon, and Cataldo and Kim are hoping to open as early as September.
“We’re going to try to create a California beach vibe with great healthy food and a great atmosphere,” said Cataldo, who lives in Bay Shore.
Cataldo credits the popularity of acai bowls among younger people as the reason for Beach Bowl’s rapid growth.
“It’s a very popular item for high school kids,” he said. “A lot of my workers are high schoolers making the [acai bowls] behind the counter.”
For that reason, the owners chose their next venture to be walking distance from Babylon High School.
(Another acai bowl place, SoBol is also in the works for Cooper Street.)
The Babylon Beach Bowl location will be different from the Islip shops, which each offer a larger food selection that includes pizza and burritos; it will be more like the Huntington location that focuses on acai bowls and smoothies.
The Huntington store opened in May.
“We want [Babylon] to be a duplicate of our Huntington location that opened three months ago,” said Cataldo.
Huntington’s classic bowl is the “San Diego Bowl,” which is packed with “fresh blends of acai berries, strawberries, bananas, and soy milk into a creamy yogurt-like base,” reads its Facebook page.
“We are trying to be the best at what we do,” said Cataldo.
The hours of operations with be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Sunday.
