The Fair Media Council is bringing together the founders of three Long Island digital news outlets for a masterclass and live pitch session next month.
The New Front Page: Masterclass & Pitch Session will be held Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at 58 S. Service Road in Melville.
The event will feature Greater Long Island founder and publisher Michael White, Innovate Long Island co-founder Gregory Zeller and The Long Island Times founder Jonathan Max discussing how their digital outlets approach local news, what they look for in stories and how organizations can better pitch them.
Following the discussion, attendees will have an opportunity to pitch story ideas directly to the three publishers. The session is geared toward public relations and marketing professionals, nonprofit executives, communications directors and business leaders.
“The people who know how to pitch and who they’re pitching are the ones who get news coverage,” said Jaci Clement, CEO and executive director of the Fair Media Council. “Too many communications teams rely on outdated methods, because the landscape is constantly changing and fragmenting.”
The three outlets take distinctly different approaches to Long Island coverage. Greater Long Island publishes a high volume of daily news and community coverage across Nassau and Suffolk; Innovate Long Island focuses on the region’s innovation and business economy; and The Long Island Times highlights charitable efforts, community organizations and other positive local news.
Tickets are $135 for nonmembers and $99 for employees of Fair Media Council member organizations and include a continental breakfast, networking, the presentation and pitch session.
Advance registration is required through the Fair Media Council’s website.
