Long Island man wins $1 million with lottery scratch-off card

|

A Freeport man claimed a $1 million prize on New York Lottery’s Magic 8 Ball scratch-off game, lottery officials said today.

Walter Jewels received a single, lump sum payment totaling $445,356, after required taxes. The Freeport High School alumnus bought his winning ticket at Curiosity Cards & Gifts, located at 193 Atlantic Ave. in Freeport.

Jewels is the first Long Islander to claim a $1 million scratch-off prize since January 23, when Deer Park’s Tarig Osman claimed the top prize in the Millionaire Maker scratch-off game.
