A Huntington Station woman is in jail this morning and expected to be arraigned on charges accusing her of operating a dental practice without a license inside a home in Bay Shore, police said.

Yolany Y. Mejia Carranza, 55, was practicing unlawful dentistry, police said, at the house located at 1847 Heckscher Ave. Currently being held at the Suffolk Police’s Fourth Precinct, she was charged with three counts of unauthorized practice of a profession, a class E felony.

She is due in First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.

It was Suffolk Police Third Squad detectives who developed information that indicated Carranza was performing unlawful dentistry, police said. The detectives, together with Islip Town’s fire marshal and building inspector, executed a search warrant and “discovered a fully functioning dentist office at the home,” cops said.

In addition to the Bay Shore location, detectives believe Carranza previously operated an illegal dental business at 135 Broadway in Huntington Station, police said.
