The brand-new Mamey Mexican Taqueria will start serving up authentic Mexican food starting 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1., at 122 North Carll Avenue in Babylon.

Owner Eduardo Matute says diners will get 50 percent off all available menu items both on Tuesday and on Wednesday, Aug. 2, to help the Mamey staff with its soft opening.

“After a long wait, the time has arrived and we’re very excited to bring and serve the community with our delicious, authentic Mexican food,” he said.

“Please join us for our soft opening and try our fresh, fast and tasty items.”

The taqueria will only be open from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. through Sunday. Then, starting on Monday, Aug. 7, the Mamey crew shifts to regular hours: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

As previously reported, Eduardo and the family believe being near the train station is perfect for a place offering high-quality, grab-and-go food, especially around dinnertime.

“Pop in off the train or call ahead and, hopefully, we’ll get you out quick,” he said.

Matute, who lives in Islip, is a 2007 graduate of Bay Shore High School. As for the name Mamey, that’s a fruit native to Central America that Matute described as sweet and creamy.
