Four best friends from Patchogue have taken over one of their cherished hometown spots.
The iconic Fadeley’s Deli Pub was recently acquired by locals Scottie Campbell, Chris “CB” Breheny, Ed Shine, and Patrick Wright.
“CB had a vision of restoring this place to its former glory,” said Campbell, a local restaurateur who also co-owns Dublin Deck, Harbor Crab Co., and ITA Kitchen, among other establishments in Patchogue.
The place holds sentimental value for them — it was where they all shared their first beers and countless other memories.
“I remember mowing lawns, then rushing over here with $2 to grab a sandwich, and devouring it right outside,” said Campbell, pointing out of the window of 422 W. Main St.
Established in 1973, Fadeley’s was known for its hearty sandwiches and a wide selection of German beers.
“They served the best sandwiches when we were kids. No joke,” said Wright.
In the early 2000s, Fadeley’s discontinued its deli service, shifting focus to being a neighborhood watering hole.
Now, with new ownership, the group intends to reintroduce the kitchen.
“We’ll have great heroes, soups, and a wide selection of draft beer,” said Campbell.
Apart from introducing food and some exterior sprucing up, they don’t plan on making significant changes.
“A funky local deli pub where everyone can gather,” Shine described the vision for the nostalgic Patchogue establishment.
So, patrons can still expect the vintage signs, drinking mugs, steins, and other knick-knacks that adorned the walls for the past five decades.
“You couldn’t recreate this even with a blank checkbook,” said Wright.
And of course, the drinking plaques will remain, with plans to add more.
“If you manage to drink 100 beers, your name earns a place on the wall,” shared Wright, whose father, Jim, had his name enshrined there many moons ago.
The revamped Fadeley’s will pay homage to its roots and is set to reopen before summer.
