A GoFundMe page has been launched to pay for a private investigator to join the search

Friends and family searching for a missing east Norwich woman have raised nearly $10,000 to hire a private investigator to help locate her.

Brittany Kritis-Garip, 32, has been missing since 8 p.m. Friday, March 20, when she was last captured on surveillance video on McCouns Lane. Her husband Fernando Garip has said that she exited a moving car and was in a panicked state at the time of her disappearance.

Search efforts are now focused near Oyster Bay Harbor, after her wallet was discovered nearby, friends said.

Sarah Castor posted on Facebook that Kritis-Garip’s wallet was found near the end of Florence Avenue — in a marshy, sandy area along the shore.

Castor, who has been coordinating search efforts on the family’s behalf, asked volunteers to focus on a one-mile radius around Florence Avenue.

Outpouring of support

Castor has also organized a GoFundMe campaign that is raising money to hire a licensed private investigator and cover search-related expenses.

“While law enforcement is actively involved, time is critical,” Castor wrote on the fundraiser page. “Brittany is deeply loved. We are doing everything we can to find her — and we are so grateful for your support.”

Nassau Police have deployed a helicopter and drones multiple times since Kritis-Garip’s disappearance. The search has been focused near the East Norwich–Oyster Bay border.

Additionally, the woman’s family has established a public Facebook Group dedicated to fielding tips and organizing search efforts.

The family is urging residents to check Ring cameras and security footage and to search yards, backyards, garages and sheds — particularly near train lines and stations.

Kritis-Garip is 5 feet, 7 inches tall; weighs about 140 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing black pants and a black jacket with a fur collar.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Nassau County Police Department Missing Persons Squad at 516.573.7347 or call 911.
