A neighborhood search for a 56-year-old Patchogue woman, missing for 10 days, took place in Patchogue this weekend but yielded no results.
Yvette Leonard was reported missing to Suffolk County Police on Tuesday, but her son Malyk of Brooklyn has said that his mother was last seen on June 13 near 20 Edwards St. in Patchogue. Yvette Leonard is described as a Black woman with black dreadlocks; she is heavyset and is 5-foot-6.
She was wearing black sweatpants and a short-sleeve black t-shirt at the tie of her last sighting. Flyers distributed about her disappearance note that she has schizophrenia and dementia, and is bipolar.
Malyk Leonard led the effort in today’s search, assisted by friends and members of the community. He has scheduled a press conference for Monday at noon at in front of 74 Terry St. in Patchogue.
A flyer posted on Facebook indicates that Nasiy Nasir X — the national chairman of the Lion of Judah Armed Forces and an official with the New Black Panther Nation in Minnesota — will speak during the press event, along with members of Leonard’s family. Nasir X has been active in raising awareness of unsolved cases relating to police investigations. Nasir X posted the flyer on his TikTok account.
In a TikTok post, Nasir X said he is demanding that the U.S. Marshals service get involved with the search for Yvette Leonard.
