Ten Long Island schools — three in Suffolk and seven from Nassau — have received this year’s School of Excellence designation from the National PTA.
Long Island accounts for more than half of the 18 New York schools that received the honor, given annually to schools that build particularly strong partnerships between families and their schools.
Three of the Long Island schools among the the 2023-2025 honorees are holdovers from last year’s Schools of Excellence list. Meadow Drive Elementary School in Albertson, Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School and Hewlett’s Woodmere Middle School were each also designated as 2022-2024 Schools of Excellence.
In all, the PTA this year honored 319 PTAs and schools from across the country and Department of Defense schools in Europe.
“At PTA, we strongly believe that family-school partnerships are critical and that it truly takes all of us working together to support our students’ success and improve our schools,” National PTA President Yvonne Johnson said.
National PTA Executive Director Nathan Monell added, “As demonstrated by these PTAs and schools, strong family-school partnerships are essential to make a difference for our students and schools and help every child reach their full potential.”
