|

The long-awaited release of “Lost Girls,” a Netflix movie about the infamous murders at Gilgo Beach, is almost here.

To feed the hype, the movie — which is based on the non-fiction book with the same title — dropped its first official trailer on Thursday (see above).

In the video, Netflix announced the film will premiere on March 13 on its streaming service; while it will debut first at this year’s Sundance Film Festival at the end of this month.

The release of the two-minute, 13-second teaser coincides with a big press conference held by the Suffolk County Police Department on the release of new evidence from the on-going investigation.

about the film

The movie follows the mother of Shannan Gilbert, a woman who was believed to be murdered by the Long Island Serial Killer.

Shannan’s mother, Mari Gilbert, will be played by Academy Award nominee Amy Ryan of “Gone Baby Gone” and “The Office.”

The film is being directed by Liz Garbus, whose most recent work includes “The Fourth Estate,” a documentary of The New York Times coverage of President Trump’s first year in office.

As previously reported, film crews were spotted on Long Island in the fall of 2018.
