New Family Dollar replaces eyesore on Union Boulevard in Bay Shore

|

The area around the train station in Bay Shore continues to look spiffier, this time with the help of a gleaming new Family Dollar that has opened at 1725 Union Boulevard.

The Family Dollar replaces a vacant eyesore that had last housed a pluming supply business.

The buildout took about nine months, said Michael Issa, an architect with Isaco Associates of LI Inc., which undertook the project for landowner Yousef Gaffary.

Gaffary had purchased the property about 11 years ago, said his daughter and business partner, Hana Dandona. But they hadn’t found a suitable tenant until Family Dollar approached them about three years ago.

Hana Dandona and her family — including 3-year-old Christian Dandona — were also on hand Saturday to celebrate the 10,000-square-foot store’s opening with a ribbon-cutting with the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Bay Shore.

“It’s great for the area,” said Hana Dandona. “All of Bay Shore is coming up.”
