When the dust settled at Thursday’s annual Press Club of Long Island Media Awards dinner at The Fox Hollow in Woodbury, three regional news outlets were left standing for Best Website.
Newsday.com took top honors, followed by a 2nd place recognition for greaterlongisland.com, published by Greater Long Island Media Group, Inc., and 3rd place for News 12 Digital.
“Once again, our mom-and-pop news outlet has placed alongside Long Island’s largest and best-known regional news organizations,” said Michael White, the publisher and founder of greaterlongisland.com. “I couldn’t be more proud of our small team of journalists here.”
Greater Long Island wins, places or shows often among News 12 and Newsday. In 2021, GLI was awarded Best Website by the Press Club of Long Island group, ahead of News12.com and Newsday.com.
The GLI team took home other awards as well.
Jamie Stuart and Andrew Theodorakis took first place honors in the Health, Science & Technology video category for their work on a feature called Feeling Once Again: AI-powered brain implants for paralyzed Long Island man.

The other First Place honor was for the Best Use of Instagram, as GLI spotlighted a year-round ice rink that had opened in Calverton with a video Reel by Nick Esposito that tallied 50,000 views.
Jamie Stuart and Andrew Theodorakis also took home 2nd place honors in the Sports Feature Video category for The journey of Johnny Gadamowitz, from Mets kidcaster to calling Cyclones games.
