Warehouse fire in North Amityville injures two firefighters

Fire crews from western Suffolk and eastern Nassau battled a multi-alarm blaze overnight at a commercial building in North Amityville that left two firefighters injured, officials said.

The fire broke out abound 10:30 p.m. Thursday at a commercial property located at 690 Albany Ave. Firefighters remained on scene for several hours as flames and heavy smoke poured from the building.

Nine fire departments responded to the scene, including two from Nassau County, News 12 Long Island reported.

Officials said the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation was also called in after an unknown substance spilled from drums inside the building, according to the TV report. The nature of the material was not immediately known.

Cause under investigation

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling the blaze inside the warehouse.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
