An Oktoberfest fundraiser that continues to grow each year in West Islip

|

Eating, drinking, and enjoying music — all while supporting a good cause.

Thats the plan for the Women of West Islip‘s seventh annual Oktoberfest on Thursday, Oct. 19, at Farrell’s of Brooklyn at 263 Higbie Lane in West Islip.

“Every year it grows and grows,” said WOWI co-founder, Patty Vorilas.

The overarching goal of the nonprofit organization is “to work together to make West Islip the great community that it should be,” according to its website.

The event runs from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. with a $10 cover charge and includes a hot buffet, one drink, and the cost of the DJ.

Bring some extra cash because a Chinese auction will also take place.

And all of the proceeds go directly back to the local community, Vorilas said.

For instance the Women of West Islip group’s fundraising work has paid for the entire cost of an anti-bullying presentation that will be featured at West Islip High School and at Beach Street Middle School and Udall Road Middle School.

“Our mission is to get kids to be nice to one another,” said Vorilas.
