Only one Suffolk elementary school cracks NY’s Top 100 in U.S. News study

|

Nassakeag Elementary School in East Setauket is Suffolk County’s highest-ranked elementary school in U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 Best Elementary and Best Middle Schools study — and it’s the only Suffolk school that cracked the state’s top 100.

With an overall score of 96.01 out of 100, Nassakeag is joined by another school from the Three Village Central School District among Suffolk’s top 10. Half Hollow Hills and Kings Park districts also each placed two schools in the top 10 of the newly released report.

The 2025 Best Elementary and Best Middle Schools rankings rely on publicly available data from the U.S. Department of Education. The methodology evaluates state assessments to determine the percentage of students achieving proficiency or above in mathematics and reading/language arts. It also incorporates factors like student demographics and performance across core academic subjects.

“The data empowers families and communities to advocate for their children’s education,” said LaMont Jones, Ed.D., managing editor for education at U.S. News. “Research continues to indicate that how students perform academically at these early grade levels is a big factor in their success in high school and beyond.”
