|

Nassau County boasts 21 elementary schools among the top 100 in New York state, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 Best Elementary and Middle Schools rankings.

The highest ranked school on the list is Great Neck’s Lakeville Elementary School with an overall score of 99.5 out of 100. Its high percentages in reading and math proficiency, 88% and 95%, respectively, fueled Lakeville’s No. 13 ranking in the state.

The 2025 Best Elementary and Best Middle Schools rankings are based on publicly available data from the U.S. Department of Education. The study’s methodology focuses on state assessments measuring students’ proficiency or higher in mathematics and reading/language arts, while also considering student backgrounds and performance in core subjects.

Three of the state’s top five elementary schools are part of the Jericho Union Free School District. Two are in the Syosset Central School District.
