Patchogue-Medford baseball to hold pre-game ceremonies for veterans April 15

|

Patchogue-Medford’s varsity baseball program is commemorating local military veterans with special pre-game ceremony on April 15.

Starting at 2 p.m., the district will be hosting a parade, which will feature members from three local veteran posts, in the lead-up to a game against Brentwood.

The parade, led by a student bagpiper, will start in front of the school’s Michael Murphy monument. Upon arrival, the veterans will be welcomed by student athletes who will be saluting and holding flags for each branch of the military.

Prior to the game’s 3 p.m. start time, three veterans will throw ceremonial first pitches, while two additional servicemen will collect lineup cards as honorary captains.

The Patchogue-Medford Hall of Fame Booster Club is sponsoring the event.

“It’s to recognize the veterans for their service to our country,” said Manny Felouzis, the Hall of Fame Booster Club’s founder and president.

He stressed that all veterans, not just those actively involved with organizations such as the VFW, American Legion or AMVETS, are welcome to attend the parade.
