Two Patchogue-Medford students just made school history in Greenport on Sunday.
Senior Abigail Caravella and junior Kiersten Schafer became the first-ever Pat-Med students to win acting awards at the prestigious Teeny Awards, which honor standout performances in high school theater across eastern Long Island.
Both were recognized for their roles in the school’s spring production of Mean Girls, with Abigail taking home the top prize for lead role in a comedy musical as Cady Heron, and Kiersten earning best supporting role for her portrayal of Janis Sarkisian.
Three more cast members were nominated for their work in the show: Sienna Reefer (Regina George), Katelyn Oterson (Gretchen Wieners), and Georgia Salerno (Karen Smith).
The recognition didn’t stop with the cast. Cosmetology students, the pit orchestra, stage crew, and dance captain Kyla O’Sullivan were also honored with technical recognition awards for their behind-the-scenes contributions.
“The District is proud to congratulate Abigail and Kiersten on their Teeny Awards,” said Nathan Brinkman, Pat-Med’s director of art, music, and cultural arts. “In the past three years, our program had received nominations but no winners until this point.
“This is an achievement, not only for Abigail and Kiersten, but for the entire cast and crew and our directors as well.”
