The chili powder and oyster cracker dust has cleared.
And the undisputed best chowder in Patchogue Village, as determined by participants in the annual chili and chowder contest during the Fall Festival, belongs to That Meetball Place.
As for the best chili, that ended in a dreaded tie between Goldberg’s Deli and Del Fuego East.
About 400 Fall Festival revelers purchased tickets at the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce booth on East Main Street Saturday to participate in the chlii and chowder tasting. That number was good for nearly triple last year’s participation, said David Kennedy, the chamber’s executive director.
In total, 134 ballots were cast, as tasters were encouraged to pick their favorite chili and chowder.
Below are the highlights:
BEST CHOWDER
That Meetball Place shrimp & roasted corn chowder (40 votes)
Village Idiot Pub (26)
The Cheese Patch (16)
Public House 49 (15)
Fulton’s Gate (14)
BEST CHILI
Goldberg’s Deli famous chili (29 votes) & Del Fuego East turkey chorizo chili (29 votes)
The Cheese Patch (17)
Gallo Restaurant (16)
Village Idiot Pub (14)
In total, 11 restaurants participated in the contest, with every restaurant receiving multiple votes.
Kennedy said he invites anyone to the chamber’s office to inspect the ballots.
