All about the opening of Patchogue’s new drive-thru burrito joint

|

Burrito Mariachi with its drive-thru operation is opening next week in Patchogue.

Sam Liu, the owner of the new Burrito Mariachi in Patchogue and the founder of the franchise, will host a grand opening celebration Monday at noon with a complementary lunch for friends, family and members of the Patchogue Chamber of Commerce.

Then, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., the Mexican restaurant at 272 East Main Street, the site of the old Checkers, will offer half priced meals to all its customers that pop in for fresh-made Mexican cuisine.

The family-owned restaurant offers an array of options from tacos to quesadillas and nachos to enchiladas, all of which customers can customize. The menu will also boast signature burritos and burrito bowls, including the Buffalo Jack chicken burrito, the Lazy Mike with chicken or steak and the Queen Bee shrimp burrito.

Liu opened his first Burrito Mariachi in Wantagh in 2011. He has since sold that location, while opening and operating locations in Massapequa and Farmingdale. Patchogue is the third he will own and first to boast a drive-thru, which will only serve preset options to ensure it runs quickly.

The new grill will be open seven days a week from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Liu said he is considering leaving the drive-thru open until 1 a.m.

Working in the restaurant industry since he was 15 years old, Liu, now 38, decided Mexican cuisine was a great option for this stage in his career.

“It’s a pretty good choice, a Mexican grill,” Liu said. “What we want to bring to our community is fresh healthy food which comes at a reasonable price for quality food.”
