Peconic Bay Medical Center on Friday dedicated the Corey Critical Care Pavilion and Kanas Regional Heart Center, setting the stage for expanded healthcare for East End residents.
The Corey Critical Care Pavilion is named in honor of Emilie Roy and Michael Corey, and includes a rooftop helipad, and a 16-bed intensive and cardiac care unit.
It is also the new, expanded home of the Kanas Regional Heart Center, which includes two cardiac catheterization laboratories, an electrophysiology suite and recovery rooms. The Kanas Regional Heart Center was made possible by the John and Elaine Kanas Family Foundation.
Northwell Health President and CEO Michael Dowling called PBMC “a major priority for Northwell” and “a hub” for the region.
Since 2017, PBMC’s first cath lab has treated nearly 2,000 patients.
Regarding the expansion, he told hundreds of donors, employees and local officials assembled for the dedication, “People will walk in here years from now and say, “What a great facility and service it is.”
PBMC raised more than $33 million towards the construction of the new facility, including more than $600,000 donated by almost 1,000 hospital employees.
“You have set a seed that will be fertilized that over the years will be expanded and grow,” Dowling said.
The construction included space for an emergency room expansion and other future community needs.
John Kanas said the expansion – with the two new cardiac catheterization labs coming on board next month – “is especially important to us who have lived in this community all our lives.”
However, “We’re not finished,” insisted Emilie Roy Corey, who wants to see more comprehensive women’s care, as well as the emergency space.
