People join hands, pray in Patchogue Village after mass shooting in Las Vegas

|

Members of the Greater Patchogue community came together Monday night in support of the victims and families involved in the mass shooting Sunday night in Las Vegas.

The sunset vigil at Capital One Plaza saw nearly two dozen people praying for those affected, while humming  Amazing Grace in a small display of unity and strength during trying times.

“We can’t do anything but love each other and be aware and teach these guys [points to her young son] that this is not how it goes,” said the event’s organizer, Jacqueline Routh.

Standing in a circle, residents of the village and other areas held candles and expressed their condolences and grief.

“I think Patchogue is the type of village that comes together in times like this,” said Ralph Wright, who was also in attendance. “Unfortunately, [these shootings] bring us fear and thats not what we need.

“We need support for one another.”
