Photo Tour: The new Port Jefferson Surgery Center gets ready to open

|

The North Shore of Long Island is just days away from getting a convenient alternative to surgical operations at the hospital. The outpatient surgical center in Port Jefferson Station that broke ground in November 2016 is now nearing completion.

So instead of trying to navigate through a crowded hospital, the easy-to-find Port Jefferson Surgery Center at 1500 Route 112 will allow patients to make appointments for surgeries in advance.

And at a better cost too, according to those involved in the project.

“The cost of procedures are cheaper by a about a third [compared to a hospital] because we don’t have the same overhead,” said Lisa Austin, vice president of facility development for Pinnacle III, a management company that also has an ownership share in the center.

In addition to Pinnacle III, which is a contracted management company, there are two other groups that run the ambulatory center.  The Suffolk Surgical Management Associates, an LLC comprising 19 physicians, has the largest share, while John T. Mather Hospital has a large stake as well.

The diverse management team allows the center to offer different operations in the fields of orthopedics, neurology, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, general surgery, and pain management.

The 16,116 square-foot building, which holds six operating rooms, is set to open in late January.
