Greater East End coverage is funded in part by The Watershed Kitchen & Inn, a North Fork destination in South Jamesport featuring elevated comfort food, craft cocktails and boutique accommodations.
Abigayle’s, the newest restaurant from the husband-and-wife team behind the Watershed Kitchen & Inn in South Jamesport, celebrated its grand opening Saturday, Oct. 11, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in downtown Riverhead.

The restaurant is located at 428 E. Main St., inside the historic Preston House building, which previously housed Myles on Main and, before that, the Preston House restaurant.
Owners Patricia and James Mangiacapre announced plans for Abigayle’s in June, telling Greater Long Island they wanted to bring their internationally inspired cuisine and family-run hospitality to downtown Riverhead.
The restaurant spans three floors, with a main dining room and bar, second-floor space for private parties and events, and plans for a basement cocktail lounge.
Its menu draws inspiration from Patricia’s Dominican heritage, James’ Italian background and the culinary experience of longtime Watershed chef Jorge Aparacio.
And the name? That belongs to the couple’s beloved Yorkie, Abigayle, who originally came into the relationship with Patricia.
“I swore it was not my dog,” James joked during a June interview with Greater Long Island. “Yet, I’m the one that runs this dog to the vet. I’m the one that carries her in my little pouch everywhere I go.”
The Preston House building dates to 1905 and was originally home to Henry H. Preston, Suffolk County’s first salaried sheriff.
