Photos: What the solar eclipse looked like over Long Island

|

Photographer Benny Migliorino of Benny Migs Photo took to the shores of Long Island to capture Monday’s historic eclipse.

The images above (L-R) were taken from 2:01 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.

“If you didn’t have glasses you wouldn’t have known the eclipse was even happening” he said.

Migliorino, a greaterlongisland.com contributor, had never shot a solar eclipse.

“From my research I found that shooting [during the eclipse] could possibly damage the sensor in the camera, but I didn’t have much time,” he explained.

So he took to Facebook and asked friends if any of them had solar glasses.

He secured two pairs and got to work on a DIY filter.

“I took the glasses apart and carefully took the film out of the glasses and taped them to a piece of plastic and on the opposite side of that plastic I hot-glued a UV lens that screws right onto the camera,” he said.
