Stony Brook football has been rolling this season, winning its last three games to improve to 3-1 (1-0 CAA) on the season.
Now the Seawolves are readying for their toughest opponents of the year:
Villanova (3-1, 0-1) is ranked No. 14 in the nation.
That matchup against the two CAA teams should be a close one, as Stony Brook improved to No. 17 in the FCS after defeating conference foe Richmond 36-10 last Saturday.

The Long Island Express vs. Top Rushing D
Stony Brook’s rushing attack of seniors Jordan Gowins and Donald Liotine, who have been coined the “Long Island Express,” has been dominant during the winning streak.
Over the last three games, both rushers have tallied over 100 yards each and currently lead the conference in rushing. Gowins is No. 1 with 510 yards and Liotine is No. 2 with 377.
On the flip side, the Wildcat’s defense is ranked No. 3 in rushing defense, allowing just 81.8 yards per game.
According to Villanova.com, senior linebacker Jeff Steeb, junior Drew Wiley and senior safety Rob Rolle have all recorded 10-plus tackles on rushing plays this season.

A scoring defense vs. high scoring offense
In the last three games, Stony Brook’s defense has scored four touchdowns — three interceptions returned for a touchdown and an 87-yard fumble recovery returned for a score.
But Villanova is the top-ranked team for total offense this season. The offense has scored 19 touchdowns this year — eight more than second place’s Towson.

The last time the Seawolves battled the Wildcats was back in 2013 when ‘Nova won 35-6 in a Week 4 matchup at home.

The conference matchup against the two teams is set for Saturday, Sept. 29, at 6 p.m. at LaValle Stadium in Stony Brook.
