A Suffolk County Transit bus overturned Wednesday after crashing into a Montauk Bus Company mini school bus at a busy Riverhead intersection, sending three people to the hospital, authorities said.
Riverhead Police said officers responded to the crash about 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of Doctors Path and Northville Turnpike.
The school bus was traveling north on Northville Turnpike when it collided with the eastbound Suffolk County Transit bus on Doctors Path, causing the larger bus to overturn, cops said.
The mini bus was carrying a driver, one child passenger and two bus attendants at the time of the wreck. The transit bus had a driver and one adult passenger aboard.
Members of the Riverhead Fire Department extricated the adult passenger from the transit bus. The child passenger and the mini school bus driver, along with the adult passenger from the transit bus, were taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.
