Road rage can result in injury, jail time and even death.
And it’s always avoidable.
This Long Beach native and business consultant is looking to do something about it, something to help.
“I don’t like seeing others get bullied by other drivers,” said Portia Hampton, who developed and launched the RoadVent app last month.
The idea is simple: Instead of dangerously taking your road rage out on other drivers, vent on the app.
Or if you see behavior you just abhor, use the app’s voice-activated submission form.
Through this, you can speak the license plate number, choose a box indicating the driver was speeding, distracted, rude, or other options. You can then speak some more comments into the form and submit.
RoadVent is currently available for free in the Apple App Store and the Amazon App Store. Hampton is also working on making the app downloadable through Google Play.
“I hope to see safer, friendlier roads by allowing people to know their actions are being observed,” said Hampton. “All while preventing physical violence by allowing people to vent in written form compared to physical.”
To be sure, this isn’t a rating system for fellow drivers.
The data is not available to other users to review, or for public humiliation.
“All information is private,” explained Hampton, who splits her time between Long Beach and the East End. “Data will be monitored by the proper administrations …
“It does act also as a cathartic experience.”
Much of what informs her mission with RoadVent is the golden rule, which she wants to see applied to the roads.
“Just having the attitude that you don’t do something to someone that you wouldn’t want done to yourself,” Hampton said.
