Roadwork will lead to closures on Ocean Parkway, starting Sept. 8

|

Travel Alert |

Motorists can expect closures beginning next week on Ocean Parkway in the towns of Babylon, Hempstead, and Oyster Bay, says the New York State Department of Transportation.

The NYSDOT released the following travel advisory on the roadwork happening on the roadway:

Beginning on Tuesday, September 8, one lane is subject to closure weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. During the overnight hours, one or two lanes may be closed weeknights between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Traffic will be maintained in both directions at all times. Closures will take place through the fall in the following areas:

  • Westbound from Jones Beach Parking Field 6 to the Meadowbrook State Parkway terminus
  • Eastbound between the Meadowbrook State Parkway terminus to Gilgo Beach
  • Both directions from the Robert Moses Causeway to the Captree State Park Toll Plaza

Electronic variable message signs in the area will relay additional information on the closures. Work may be cancelled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.

Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.  Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.
