Sand City Brewing Co. is eyeing the old CVS for Lindenhurst location

|

The owners of the popular Sand City Brewing Co. are looking to use Route 110 more often.

The Northport brewery is eyeing the old vacant CVS Pharmacy building at 150 South Wellwood Avenue for a new location.

And plans to take over the 10,000-square-foot building were given a boost Wednesday morning, when the Babylon Industrial Development Agency gave the company the go-ahead to start the IDA process for tax breaks.

“With the things going on in Lindenhurst, we believe this an economic development project, but also a community development as this building has sat vacant for so long,” said the IDA’s CEO, Thomas Dolan.

The incentives would include property tax abatements that start at 60 percent the first year and decrease annually until the tax breaks sunset after 12 years. There would also county sales tax breaks for the buildout, according to Dolan.

William Kiernan of Sand City Brewing Co. said Lindenhurst would serve as a second location for the brewers.

He couldn’t get into specific details about the project because it’s in its earliest stages.

“Suffice it to say, we love Lindenhurst and think it’s a great town to continue to grow our business with a second location,” he said.

During the meeting, Dolan pointed specifically to Lindenhurst’s Village Trustee RJ Renna as a person at the forefront in helping add the new business to the South Shore community.

“RJ had contacted me about six months ago to start discussions, and we’re working along to fill the old CVS,” said Dolan.

Renna said the brewery would be another step in making Lindenhurst a go-to destination for Long Islanders.

“This is a great milestone,” said Renna, following the decision. “It is going to continue to attract new businesses while filling a vacancy that was an eyesore in the community.

“We’re going to have two breweries, and we have W A Meadwerks, so Lindenhurst is getting ready to take off,” he added.
