Sayville High School has named seniors Mackenzie Schutte and Anthony Artusa as the valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, for the Class of 2026.

Both students have earned weighted grade point averages above 107 while taking a demanding slate of Advanced Placement and honors courses. Schutte and Artusa were also recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction by the College Board.

Schutte has taken on several leadership roles in the school community, serving as co-president of the Science National Honor Society, an ambassador for Morgan’s Message, and a member of the Principal’s Advisory Committee. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, World Languages Honor Society and Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society.

Schutte plays on the girls varsity lacrosse team and participates in the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Artusa serves as the ex officio student representative to the Sayville Board of Education, attending meetings and providing student perspective on district initiatives.

He is also involved in the Principal’s Advisory Committee, Student Climate Advisory Committee, Future Business Leaders of America and Mathletes. Like Schutte, he is a member of the National, World Languages and Rho Kappa honor societies.

Artusa also is an accomplished musician, performing on alto saxophone in the school’s wind ensemble.

“Mackenzie and Anthony truly embody the very best of Sayville High School,” Sayville High School Principal Stephanie Bricker said. “Their dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence set them apart as outstanding role models within our school community.”

Superintendent Marc Ferris said the pair’s achievements reflect years of hard work and perseverance.

“Earning the distinction of valedictorian and salutatorian is a remarkable accomplishment,” Ferris said. “We are incredibly proud of their success and confident that they will continue to make a positive impact in all of their future endeavors.”
