Heritage Park’s Parade of American Flags is a walk through history.
To honor the U.S. and its soldiers, the Mount Sinai park, located at at 633 Mount Sinai Coram Road, exhibits 100 national, state, territory, and local flags three times a year — Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Veterans Day.
The event was created back in 2010 by Mount Sinai resident Fred Drewes, who sets up the flags each year with volunteers.
“When people walk through the flags they just revel in the feeling and it also lifts spirits,” Drewes previously said.
The flags are flown along Avenue of America between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In its 8th annual year, new faces still come down to check out the flags and its history.
“I think it’s beautiful,” said Cathy Raymond of Wading River, “It is a great memorial.”
