Family, friends and colleagues will gather for funeral services this week to mourn and honor Adrian Weger Gilmore, the longtime Shoreham-Wading River teacher and coach who died Wednesday after suffering a medical event at school the previous day. She was 42.

Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, April 30, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Moloney-Sinnicksons Funeral Home in Center Moriches. A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, May 1, at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, also in Center Moriches.

Gilmore taught and coached at Shoreham-Wading River for 20 years. As head coach of the girls varsity soccer team, she led the program to multiple Suffolk County and Long Island championships, along with one New York state title. She was named the United Soccer Coaches East Region High School Coach of the Year in 2019.

“More than her impressive achievements, she will be remembered as a mentor to fellow coaches, a guiding light to teachers, and a fierce advocate for children. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering belief in others lifted everyone around her,” reads her obituary.

“Adrian was the light in every room—a selfless soul who always put others before herself, whose smile could ease the heaviest burdens and whose heart was big enough to hold a whole community,” Gilmore’s obituary continues. “Her legacy is woven into the fabric of every life she touched, whether in the classroom, on the soccer field, or in the community she loved so dearly.”

The mother of three suffered a sudden medical event just before 3 p.m. on April 22 at Albert G. Prodell Middle School in East Shoreham. She was taken by ambulance to John T. Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson, where she later died.

Gilmore’s family said she has helped continue helping others through organ donation.

“To know Adrian was to love her; to be loved by Adrian was to be profoundly blessed,” her obituary reads.

Born and raised in Moriches, Gilmore graduated from William Floyd high School and played college soccer at Concordia College, where she met her husband, Timothy, while earning a bachelor’s degree. The couple later settled in Mastic, where they were raising three children: Kayla, Cameron and Colby.

Gilmore is also survived by her parents, Cathleen and Gary Weger, and her brothers Matthew, Christopher and Joshua.

“Though Adrian’s time with us feels far too short, the love she gave and the light she brought into this world will continue to shine brightly in all who were touched by her extraordinary life,” reads her obituary. “She will be deeply, profoundly missed.”
